The Melville 7th Street Fête de la Musique will take place on the lively 7 street in Melville Johannesburg. Pedestrianized for the entire day, the street will offer Joburgers a unique artistic & cultural experience featuring a giant puppet parade, live music, kids entertainment, street performances, an open mic session, an open-air screening and much more.


THE MAHOTELA QUEENS

Artists such as The Brother Moves on, The Mahotella Queens, Nibs Van der Spuy & Davy Sicard, The Fantastique Guys, UJU, Giant Match, Bongeziwe Mabandla will perform their best tunes during the day. Some special projects such as Invisible Cities Pirate Radio and Melville Actor Studio will also be part of the event. Restaurants will get the opportunity to spill out onto the street and create a special menu for the day. As one of the first events of the France-South Africa Seasons 2012 & 2013, the Melville 7th street Fête de la Musique will give audiences a first taste of the fare on offer during the French Season in South Africa, which runs from June to November this year.


JOZI
 Fête de la Musique is above all a free popular music celebration; an opportunity to communicate and share a very special moment through music. Launched in 1982 by the French Ministry for Culture, the Fête de la Musique is held in more than hundred countries in Europe and around the world. It originally takes place on and around 21 June, the day of the summer solstice in the Northern hemisphere.

Two larger than life puppets accompanied by musicians will open the festivities with a parade 7th Street / Melville.

With DJ sets by BLKJKSSNDSYSTM, João Orecchia and guests ICR will be broadcasting live from 1945, looking into the future and interviewing some of your favourite personalities and other interesting ambassadors from the future - you.Designer handheld ICR FM radios will be given out to the audience during the day

You always wanted to be the lead actor in a movie?
Eat my Dust cinema project will grant your wish! Come with a friend, family member or spouse (2 pers max) and pick out YOUR scene among famous classic movies selected for you by the Eat my dust crew. Camera rolls Action! Best shoots get screened at the open-air screening! No special skills required, Eat my dust team takes care of everything. 20 minutes per shoot.

OPEN AIR SCREENING @ Lucky Bean  (From 19h30)
On top of the screenings of the best films shot as part of the Melville Actor Studio, the 13 teenagers of the Eat my dust crew are cooking a special menu for you a retrospective of all the Eat my Dust movies, from Singing in Kliptown (award winner for the short category at the Jozi Film Festival), to the now classic, The sprinkler sprinkled. The Eat my dust cinema project aims at changing the way the youth views the world by introducing them to the art of cinema. It started in January 2011 in Kliptown, with a monthly open-air screening, cinema classes and a short films production. The team remakes pioneering movies of the classics, from musicals to comedies and contemporary dance.
