Manny Pacquiao to do his first Hollywood movie

If Anne Curtis has an independent Hollywood film, Manny Pacquiao will also star in his first-ever mainstream Hollywood movie.

The Filipino boxing champ is confirmed to be in the cast of Brass Knuckles, an action movie which will be directed by Erick Geisler.

Manny will star opposite Richard Portnow, Carlos Ramirez and Jacob Vargas. Tila Tequilla is also rumored to be in the cast.

Synopsis:

Finch and Rabbit are two small time crooks trying to make it big. When Rabbit jumps at an opportunity for them to get a fighter on the books at a local gang connected underground fight, he triggers a chain of events that ultimately leave him and his pal Finch in hot water with Kim Jong Kong, the leader of the Korean gang and underworld king-pin. Desperate to fix matters Rabbit and Finch are thrown into a roller-coaster ride for their lives when a drug deal gone wrong leaves two common street crack heads with 10 million in counterfeit money and a red car lined with premium grade ecstasy. A fistful of motley characters enter the story, including 'The Turk' a relentless hit man in search of the drugs, 'The Deutsch' A queer as folk German drug dealing leader who takes a liking to Rabbit, 'Pepe' the prized shotgun of Sanchez Mcgee and 'Fong-Tong-Kong' nephew of Kim-Jong-Kong. – Erick Geisler

The movie is in pre-production and actual filming reportedly starts in August. It is scheduled for release in 2013.

I just hope Manny will do the movie after the rematch with Timothy Bradley, if ever it is happening in November. We don’t want to occupy him now with anything else while training, do we? Or is his inclusion in this movie an indication that a rematch is not happening soon?

WBO says Pacquiao won over Bradley, belt to stay with Bradley!

World boxing icon Manny Pacquiao won over Timothy Bradley in their fight for the World Boxing Organization welterweight crown, a five-man panel of the WBO said, according to a radio report.

However, the WBO was quoted in the same radio report as saying that the welterweight belt would stay with Bradley.

All five judges who watched the replay of the Pacquiao-Bradley match scored unanimously in favor of the Filipino boxing great: 117-111; 117-111: 118-110; 116-112; 115-113.

Bradley defeated Pacquiao via controversial split decision during their fight in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 9.

The uproar over the decision by the three judges prompted the WBO to launch an investigation.

Manny was happy and pleased that justice was given to the controversial match and asked his fans to relax and is still looking forward for the November rematch.

Timothy Bradley: 'I'm Not Giving the Belt Back. Everyone Can Forget About That'

Timothy Bradley has made up his mind: He will not be returning the belt back to Manny Pacquiao because he decided that he clearly won the fight.

On a recent radio interview with The Boxing Lab, Bradley expressed his dislike in how boxing fans reacted to the decision, and reminded them that watching the fight without the sound will change everyone’s mind:

"Everyone is saying I should give the belt back but I'm not giving the belt back. Everyone can forget about that. I won the fight. Everybody turn down the volume and watch the fight. You can see I won the fight," stated a clearly upset Bradley.

Of course, giving back the belt is not necessary and probably not an easy thing to do had he wanted to return it.

The only way Bradley can lose his belt now is if the Nevada State Athletic Commission reverses the decision. As a matter of fact, the NSAC has plans to review the decision with every judge separately to make sure they made the right choice, and to understand how they arrived to that conclusion.

Maybe doing this will provide the right insight into what the judges had going through their heads as they scored the fight the way they did:

“I just watched the replay last night without any sound and you need to see the punches and how many times I connected and how many times Manny connected. Boxing isn't just about landing the biggest punches. That is why they have judges. Pacquiao is throwing punches and missing and the crowd is going crazy yelling. Pacquiao misses a punch and the commentators say how he hits me while I land a punch and they don't say anything," Bradley continued.

In a way, I can see what Bradley is talking about, but it’s important to remember that volume is crucial in a fight like this. This is not a heavyweight bout, thus the fight will rarely be judged based on a dozen of total punches landed.

Both Bradley and Pacquiao wanted to fight an aggressive fight, and in a way, both let their hands go.

Having said all that, the judges and the commentators don’t communicate with each other in making their decision. Thus, pointing fingers at the commentators about how they called the fight and possibly influenced the decision is absolute nonsense.

Both fighters—as well as the rest of the world—should soon hear from the NSAC and the WBO on their finding about the accuracy of the scores and the final decision.

WBO Assigns Five Judges to Re-score Pacquiao-Bradley Fight!

The World Boxing Organization on Wednesday announced it has assigned five judges to re-score Manny Pacquiao's controversial loss by decision to Palm Springs' Timothy Bradley in an effort to convince state commissions to widen the pool of judges for major fights.

Although many at ringside for Saturday's fight gave Pacquiao between nine and 11 rounds, judges Duane Ford and C.J. Ross scored the bout 115-113 (seven rounds to five) in Bradley's favor, and a third Nevada judge, Jerry Roth, had it 115-113 for Pacquiao in the WBO welterweight title contest.

WBO President Francisco "Paco" Valcarcel said five judges, from New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, Pennsylvania and Puerto Rico, will re-score the bout and submit their work confidentially to the WBO, with the scores to be gathered by Monday.

Valcarcel said that armed with that information, he will submit to the Assn. of Boxing Commissions by its July meeting a request that state commissions such as Nevada's work more diligently to bring in judges from outside their states for fights of the magnitude of a world title contest.

Before the Pacquiao-Bradley judges were assigned by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, Valcarcel said he submitted a list of 20 judges from elsewhere who could be assigned to the bout. None were chosen.

"We're asking the ABC to make recommendations how a sanctioning body like ours can work better with a state commission, to use this experience to have better scoring in the future," Valcarcel said.

Valcarcel said he is not considering stripping the WBO belt from Bradley, and will not order a mandatory rematch, because Pacquiao's contract stipulates he would get a rematch if he lost the bout. In promoting the fight, Bradley had printed up a poster and ticket hyping Bradley-Pacquiao II on Nov. 10.

"This wasn't Bradley's fault, and we're not saying there was any evidence of fraud or corruption here," Valcarcel said. "That's outside the scope of what we're doing."He said he's also not questioning the integrity of Ford or Ross.

"There are excellent judges available internationally, and they should be considered," Valcarcel said. "We've done it here in Puerto Rico, bringing in judges from Nevada."

Timothy Bradley's Secret in Beating Manny Pacquiao Revealed

The still-undefeated Timothy Bradley, who brought down Manny Pacquiao like a blue ghost on Saturday, might have had an unfair advantage: He follows a vegan training regimen. The welterweight is famously hard on left-handers, but he's easy on animals.

When training for a fight, Bradley adheres to a plant based diet. Yes, that is right, serious athlete, serious training, serious muscles, vegan diet. In fact, Bradley gives credit to his diet for giving him a distinct advantage in the ring.

Bradley first tried a plant based diet in 2008, when an adviser suggested he try it because it would give him more energy and endurance. His training went so well, and was so successful, that it became a regular part of his training program. His vegan diet before a fight leads him to visit a local vegan restaurant, the Organic Palm Greens Cafe, up to twice per day in his hometown of Palm Springs, California and has had a vegan smoothie— Bradley’s Ultra Green—named after him at the establishment.

This is a interesting twist, as most wold think a boxer who is beefed up and training hard to build up muscle would stock pile the protein needed to add on the extra muscle by upping their meat consumption, but Bradley has proven that isn’t always the case.

Bradley said the vegan diet helps increase his energy before a fight: “My thoughts are clearer, crisp. I am sharp. Everything is working perfectly—I feel clean. It’s a weird feeling, man. It’s just a weird feeling.”

In this clip, in which he talks about why he loves eating vegan meals, Bradley explains, "I just feel completely different. I feel superior over any athlete I get in the ring with. You know, energy is there."

Pacquiao-Bradley rematch on hold, Arum wants an investigation of the judges!

Amid controversy surrounding undefeated American fighter Timothy Bradley’s split decision victory over Manny Pacquiao, fight promoter Bob Arum said he would not sign on to a rematch unless an investigation was launched about the scoring by the judges who called the fight.

“I want to investigate whether there was any undue influence, whether the (Nevada Athletic Commission) gave any particular instruction and how they came to this conclusion,” Arum told Yahoo! Sports a day after the fight. “But the whole sport is in an uproar. People are going crazy.

The outcry has been almost universal from fans, media, and boxing observers that Pacquiao was robbed of victory. While Arum has expressed disgust over the decision, believing that the Filipino fighter also won, Arum hasn’t escaped criticism, with some accusing him of somehow having a hand in the decision.

Longtime boxing trainer Teddy Atlas, in an appearance on ESPN, earlier hinted that Arum may have motivation to see Pacquiao lose.

“I’m not sure if it’s accurate that Pacquiao was about to leave one of the kingpins of the sport, Bob Arum. His contract was running out. But I think it was. And when that happens, sometimes funny things happen,” said Atlas.

Arum is pushing the investigation to clear everything up.

“If this was a subjective view that each of [the judges] honestly held, OK. I would still disagree, but then we’re off the hook in terms of there being no conspiracy. But there needs to be an independent investigation because it strains credulity that an event everybody saw as so one-sided one way all three judges saw it as close. It strains credulity,” he said.

It is unclear how Arum’s stand would fly for Pacquiao, who already expressed his desire for a return bout.

“I want a re-match,” Pacquiao said earlier.

“That makes me become a warrior in the ring, this coming re-match, because in the re-match my thinking is I don’t want to finish the whole 12 rounds.”

Arum on judges: These people don't know how to score

After Manny Pacquiao's shocking loss to Timothy Bradley, Bob Arum had choice words for the judges of the Pacquiao-Bradley fight. In the post-fight press conference, the Top Rank CEO says the judges "don't know how to score."

Arum read the punch stats aloud saying Pacquiao landed at least double the power punches, landed more jabs, and his connect ratio was much higher.

Several comments on Social Media point to Arum for cooking up this victory for Bradley, who is also under Top Rank promotions, but he dismisses the notions saying "the judges are selected by the fight commissioners in a closed meeting."

Arum still congratulates Bradley but says he's "never been as ashamed with the sport of boxing," as he is tonight."

He also mentions the rematch clause on the fight's contract but says it is up to Pacquiao if he wants to invoke it.

Bradley Wins by Split Decision! 115-113 Manny, 115-113 x 2 for Bradley. Result did not match up with the Punch Stat?

Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines was stunned by American Timothy Bradley on Saturday, surrendering his WBO welterweight title on a controversial split decision at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

It was Pacquiao's first defeat since he lost to Erik Morales in Las Vegas in March 2005, ending a run of 15 consecutive wins by the Filipino who has won world titles in an unprecedented eight weight divisions.

Fight promoter Bob Arum lambasted the judges afterwards in the post-fight news conference.

"I've never been as ashamed to be associated with the sport of boxing as I am tonight," he said. "This is a fight that respected people scored 11-1, 10-2 to Pacquiao. They said that Bradley was trying hard but that this was a mis-match.

"Desert Storm" Bradley, a 5-1 underdog against Pacquiao, improved his perfect record to 29-0 with 12 knockouts, while Pacquiao slipped to 54-4-2 with 38 knockouts.

Judge Jerry Roth (115-113) awarded the fight to Pacquiao while CJ Ross (115-113) and Duane Ford (115-113) gave it to the American, but the crowd responded with boos after 12 rounds which the Filipino had appeared to dominate.

"I accept what the result is," Pacquiao, 33, said ringside. "I respect the judges, I cannot blame them. It is a part of the game. I give thanks to the Lord. I do my best but my best wasn't good enough."

Asked if he thought he had won the fight, Pacquiao replied: "Absolutely, yes," and the crowd erupted with cheers.

"It was a good, competitive fight," said Bradley. "Every round was pretty close. Pacquiao won some of the early rounds. I controlled the later rounds with my jab. I need to go home and review the tape.

"He is a strong puncher. He rocked me a couple of times in the fight but I held my ground and fought to the end. This is boxing."

The official statistics reflected how much more punishing Pacquiao's blows had been.

He connected with a higher percentage of punches thrown, 253 of 751 to the 159 of 839 for the American, and landed 190 power punches compared to his opponent's 108.

"It is unfathomable," fumed Arum. "These people don't know how to score. The truth is they're too damn old to judge any more. What were they looking at? This was not a close fight. It's not good for the sport of boxing."

PACQUIAO DELAY

Pacquiao, who had kept his opponent waiting before the start of the fight after watching his beloved Boston Celtics NBA team lose the Eastern Conference finals to the Miami Heat, was initially outboxed by Bradley.

The American landed several early body jabs before the Filipino ended the opening round with a flourish, landing three crunching straight lefts to the head.

Watched by a crowd of just under 16,000 that included former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, Pacquiao continued to dominate Bradley with his probing left hand, then mixed in a series of telling combinations in the third round.

As chants of "Manny, Manny" echoed through the Garden Arena in the fourth round, Pacquiao pummelled Bradley with a withering array of body punches and jabs to the head, Bradley doing well to stay on his feet.

Pacquiao maintained control in the fifth round, subjecting Bradley to a flurry of blows on the counter attack and snapping his head backwards with a shuddering left hook late on.

The Filipino kept Bradley back peddling for most of the sixth round, and pinned him to the ropes with another series of body blows punctuated by a searing right hook.

Though Bradley fought back bravely in the seventh round after a couple of exchanges, Pacquaio's superior power and speed made a telling difference as the Filipino landed considerably more punches.

Pacquiao was hit by a glancing head butt in the eighth round but he remained in control while frequently smiling as most of the American's blows landed wide.

Bradley enjoyed his best round of the night in the 10th when Pacquiao appeared to relax but the Filipino came storming back with a late flurry of telling blows in the 11th. Source

Pacquiao makes anti-gay remark, barred from 'Extra' (Update)

Sarangani representative and Filipino boxing champion Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao was barred from an interview with entertainment show "Extra" at the Grove in Los Angeles after making an anti-gay remark.

Speaking with the National Conservative Examiner, Pacquiao quoted Leviticus 20:13, which says, "If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable." 

"They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."

Pacquiao made the comment after disagreeing with United States President Barack Obama’s stance on same-sex marriage.

He told the Examiner: "God only expects man and woman to be together and to be legally married, only if they are in love with each other."

"It should not be of the same sex so as to adulterate the altar of matrimony, like in the days of Sodom of Gomorrah of Old,"” he added.

The Bible verse and his statement were also published on his official website. 

Following Pacquiao's statements, his scheduled appearance on "Extra" was cancelled, according to LA Weekly.

Pacquiao was supposed to be interviewed by "Extra" host Mario Lopez; both Pacquiao and Lopez even promoted the appearance on Twitter.

But Bill Reich, spokesman of The Grove, told LA Weekly that they were cancelling the event.

"Manny Pacquiao is not coming to the Grove," he said.

The Grove also just tweeted this:

LA Weekly notes that Pacquiao lives and trains in Los Angeles, "an urban, forward-thinking haven for the gay community."

"For the sports star to announce that he thinks thousands of gay Angelenos should be ‘put to death’ for loving a same-sex partner should hugely alienate him to the locals. Not to mention alienate him politically to President Obama and the United States," said writer Simone Wilson.

Last week, Obama announced his support for same-sex marriage, telling ABC News that "I think same-sex couples should be able to get married."

UPDATE: Manny Pacquiao's interview with American TV host Mario Lopez pushed through after the ban on the Pinoy boxing champ was lifted by The Grove, a popular shopping mall in Los Angeles.

Pacquiao’s marriage with his wife Jinkee was then surrounded with a lot of controversies - from womanizing, alcohol and gambling.

Jinkee even publicly announced that she will not support his husband's fight with Marquez but changed her mind on the last minute.

After Pacquiao pulled off a unanimous decision against Marquez, he desperately worked hard to save his marriage - from giving up all his vices to closing some of his business ventures like his cockfighting farm, sold his casino and his nightclub, and his lifestyle which involved "girls and everything that goes with it."

"Now, he's back with his wife, reading the Bible every day, and he's given up basketball," Roach said.

Floyd Mayweather chickens out again, says fighting Manny Pacquiao would be a health risk!

Floyd Mayweather Jr. delivered quite a performance Tuesday and it had nothing to do with his boxing skills.

A question sparked a 10-minute speech from Mayweather, regarding the tireless topic of why he and fellow pound-for-pound great Manny Pacquiao have not come to terms on a potential multimillion dollar fight.

In a response that eventually drew applause from his entourage, Mayweather once again said it is "basic common sense" that Pacquiao has used performance-enhancing drugs and getting in the ring with him would be a risk to his future health.

"Health is more important than anything," Mayweather said. "Because guess what? When my career is over, if I'm hurt because of something that has happened in a fight, I can't come to you and say, 'I need (money).' "

Mayweather's hardest point came when he admitted that he believes the boxing world doesn't even care if Pacquiao is using or not -- that the desire to see the two fight now surpasses any concern over his safety.

"People say, 'We don't give a f--- if he's taking or not; we just want to see the fight. We don't give a f--- about your health and we don't give a f--- about your family.' " Mayweather said.

"I care about my family. I love my family. They're going to be there when no one else is there. When my career is over, you're all going to move on to the next one."

He went on to accuse Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, who represents Pacquiao, and Don King of not caring about fighters' well being and re-emphasized he won't forfeit health for money. A fight against Pacquiao would be expected to be the highest grossing bout in boxing history.

"Don King and Bob Arum don't see out the eyes of a fighter because they're not a fighter," Mayweather said. "All they care about is some f------ money. I care about a fighter's well being because I am a fighter.

"I know how it is to have a broken rib the rest of your life. I know how it is to piss blood. You all don't know nothing about this."

Mayweather has pointed to Pacquiao's rise through weight classes and the transfer of his power through them as evidence of steroid use. Since 2008, Pacquiao has won titles in five weight divisions and recorded four knockouts in nine fights.

"It took me years to get to here -- years," Mayweather said. "I'm going up in weight but I'm not walking through no damn fighters. (Pacquiao) is 106; now he decides to walk through (Miguel) Cotto? Cotto can't knock down (Shane) Mosley, but can he?"

Mayweather began his professional career at 130 pounds in 1996. He's fought the majority of his career as a welterweight. Saturday's fight against Cotto will be contested at 154 pounds.

In December 2009, a deal between the two nearly came to terms but ultimately fell through when Pacquiao refused to submit to random blood testing.

The Filipino and Arum, who represented Mayweather earlier in his career, since have softened their stance on that request. Mayweather scoffed at Arum's comments Tuesday, referring to him as a "professional liar."

"This is how the world is, you get writers saying, 'Floyd is scared,' " he said. "No, Floyd cares about his family. Floyd is smart.

"You all know for a fact I'm not scared. You all know that."

8-division world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao eyes American Idol Season 11 MexiPinay  contender Jessica Sanchez to sing "Lupang Hinirang" in one of his future fights.

Pacquiao recently praised the Filipino-Mexican-American singer, who is now among the top 5 finalists in the current season of "American Idol."

In an interview with ABS-CBNNews.com, the Saranggani Congressman said he is praying for Sanchez, and he believes she can win the whole competition.

"Jessica, good luck and we're praying for you. Sana manalo ka. No, hindi sana. I declare that you're gonna win in Jesus' name," he said.

Those who have sung the Philippine National Anthem in Pacquiao's previous fights include Charice, Maria Aragon, Sarah Geronimo, Lani Misalucha, Christian Bautista, Kyla, Jennifer Bautista, Jonalyn Viray, Aicelle Santos, Maricar Garcia, and Arnel Pineda.

Manny Pacquiao ranks fourth on Forbes’ Ten Most Influential Athletes of 2012

A photo gallery published yesterday, April 24, on the official website of Forbes magazine shows  Saranggani Representative and Pinoy boxer Manny Paqcuiao ranking fourth on its annual list of “The Ten Most Influential Athletes.”

Pacquiao follows NASCAR racer Jimmie Johnson, who earned the top spot, and National Football League (NFL) players Tim Tebow and Peyton Manning, who ranked second and third place, respectively.

The list was generated through a poll conducted by Nielsen Media Research and E-Poll Market Research on 1,000 adults.

Respondents were asked to name who they think is the most influential athlete, as well as assess their likeability and awareness levels.

According to information provided on the website, Pacquiao garnered a 20 percent influential score and a 59 percent likeability level.

He beats other famous athletes like NFL players Tom Brady (No. 5), Aaron Rodgers (No. 6), Drew Brees (No. 8), and Eli Manning (No. 9); NASCAR racer Dale Earnhardt. Jr. (No. 7); and NBA’s Jeremy Lin (No. 10).

This is the first time for Pacquiao to be included on the list.

However, in 2009 and 2010, he ranked 57th and 55th respectively on the magazine’s “Celebrity 100” list.
