Ever had those bad, stressful days when you feel like quitting? Whether it be a job or a task that is taking forever for you to complete. Well, almost every single day of work for me is like this.
Working in the medical field is though. Working on a 12hour shift? That’s tougher. Remember that in this service-oriented field, saving other people’s lives is our priority.
So here’s the thing. This happens most of the time and I’m not even exaggerating. I often have to skip my meals at work as I have no time to even sit and relax. Also, I have to work 2-4 extra hours just to finish charting. Kumusta naman. During this peak season / rainy season, hospitals are packed with patients! You could just imagine all the work I have to do myself for my patients: Those medicines I have to give; all the doctors I have to attend to when they make their rounds; all the patients you have to receive for admissions, and one of the most time-consuming ones: those you have to prepare for operation. I mean, not that I’m complaining, I’m certainly aware that this is definitely what I took up and studies for. But sometimes you come to a point were you lose control of these thing and sometimes you just wanna explode. Samahan mo pa ng gutom. Swerte na lang kung may magbigay ng pagkain :D
But at the end of the day, you gotta do what you gotta do.
One common thing people to do to relax is they try to enjoy a warm cup of coffee. Doesn’t really matter where and how you get it, 3 in 1 mix, espresso machine, vendo or Starbucks, they all have the same comforting effect. I personally think those with brown sugar smells better though. Yeah?
Even by merely savoring its relaxing smell will surely excite those endorphines out of your glands. FYI: Endorphins, simply put, are the happy hormones. They just get you all hyped up and last through the day.
Another thing that works for me and I’m pretty sure for a lot of you too is simply listening to music. Don’t you feel like it has the effect of lightening the mood all of a sudden? In fact, many scientific studies have proven that music can bring a positive state of mind, helping to keep the stress from causing chaos to our system. Also an interesting effect of music is that it can help regulate our breathing, our heart rate, and even lower our blood pressure! How about that?! I bet you didn’t know.
Having your music with you is great! Portability is essential nowadays considering how awesome our bricky gadgets have gone to where they are now. Small, sleek and sexy. From cellphones, to computers. To audio players and portable cans. These have all changed drastically compared to where we were a couple of decades ago. Everything is just so easy and convenient to bring along with us.
During my long commute to and from work, I see to it that I bring my earphones with me. They are not the best kind of earphones. They’re pretty cheap so quality, comfort and durability are sacrificed. I have probably gone to 3 Skullcandys and I don’t think I’ll ever buy one again. They fail so much on durability. Don’t even ask me why even reached buying a 3rd pair. #stupid
So yeah bringing my music to work with me brings me a clear mind and a happy vibe. Same as when I reach home. I don’t wanna be bringing any problems along with me at home. I mean come on, 12 hours or more of work and I have to deal more at home? Not gonna happen!
This only proves that music can change anything in an instant. See this. Whenever your hear Christmas songs on any month of the year let’s say, doesn’t it give you like the feeling of calmness and joy all of a sudden? It’s like it let’s you forget your problems in a snap.
So yeah, piece of advise, if you’re a workaholic like me and you are finding that work for you is becoming more and more stressful; Or just when a problematic situation arrives that pushes you beyond your limits, or you just simply want to forget your problems, try listening to your favorite tunes, and as the meme says… Just Keep Calm and Carry on. ;)
What about you? Why is music important to your life? How has it change you?
Always listening ;)
